  1. When you have less than two outs, and a man is on third base, the batter hits a ball, that the outfielder catches, and that allows the guy to tag third base, and run home. So the batter that hit the sac fly, is awarded with the RBI

  2. As the previous posters have said, as long as the routine sacrifice bunt or fly scores the runner, yes, the batter gets an RBI credit.

And as one poster noted, if there is an error, the batter may not get an RBI.  However, this is up to the discretion of the scorer.  If it is believed the runner on third would have scored anyway, then yes, the batter still gets credit for  an RBI.

One other thing, though, that I think is really odd in Major League Baseball.  If there is a runner on third and there are no outs and you hit into a double play and the run scores......you do NOT get credit for an RBI.  I've always found that strange, because the runner still scores.  But those are the rules.

  3. if he gets the runner home yea

  4. Angel Eyes,

RBI stands for Run Batted In.  A player on your team has to cross the plate because you forced him to.  There are a few things to note about RBIs:

    1) If a player is on third and you hit the ball to the first basemen and he makes an error and a run scores, the run will count but the batter who hit the ball may not be credited with an RBI due to the error.  So, errors can prevent someone from getting an RBI even though they drove them home.

    2) However, if the bases are loaded, and the batter gets walked and forces in a run, he will be awarded an RBI.

    3) A player is awarded an RBI when he hits a solo homerun.  If there are 2 people on base already and he hits a homerun, he will get 3 RBIs.

    4) Similarly with a sacrifice, if there are no errors, the batter will receive an RBI for each player that crosses home plate error free.

Similar to the RBI is the Run (R).  A run is awarded the same way an RBI is when a player hits a HomeRun.

However, the difference is thatThe Run is awarded to the person who crosses home plate, and the RBI is awarded to the person who helps force that player across home plate because of a hit, walk, etc.

  5. yes! for example, if a man is on third, and with one out a dude hits long fly ball,  the man on third tags up, scoring, which leads to batter getting credit for an rbi!

  6. if the batter makes the sacrifice hit and the runners advance, then the batters RBI goes up------lets say theres a runner on 2nd and the batter hit a sac fly with 1 out......if the runner advances to third, then the RBI goes up if not it doesn't change...

  7. RBI is runs batted in, which is a total, not an average or percentage.   He gets the RBI if the player scores.  However, if you are asking about batting average, the answer is no.  A sacrifice (bunt or fly) does not count as an at-bat.

  8. well when a batter hits a sacfrice fly,  his batting average doesnt get affected as long as it adavances a runner other than that it doesnt effect the batters RBI....
