Question:

I have an SAT dilemma, not sure what to do...?

I got a composite score of 1930 on SAT's after taking it twice: 580 CR, 710 Math, 640 Writing. I have to take 2 SAT subject tests in the next few months, but basically are these scores good enough on the SAT's to not worry about them? I'm looking at applying to schools like BU, RPI, WPI, RIT, not any ivy leagues.

Should I take them again for these schools, or does taking the SAT's 3 times look bad? (especially since I might not do much better). Or should I not bother and just worry about the subject tests from now on?

  1. It depends.

You may want to check and find out what the range of SAT scores are for people who were accepted at the schools you are looking at. I personally feel that you are fine, considering many schools feel that getting 550 per test is adequate, and yours are well above that.

If your schools will take them, you may want to retake the CR portion only. Some schools will only accept scores taken at one sitting (all three at once) though.

    Emphasize the subject tests.

The ACT is a good option, but unless you want to spend the next few months doing nothing but study for tests, I wouldn't really bother. Your scores are fine. The schools you are interested in are for technical/engineering stuff (generally), and your Math SAT is high...that looks good for those schools.

    Good luck to you!
