I am just asking because I am having troubles with speech in the country I am living in now. Every time I start to talk for a long period of time an accent begins to come out. It easier to talk with it but it is embarrassing. I want to know is this something common/does this condition have a name?

  1. I like totally have the same prob!

  2. It's not just your location, it could have something to do mostly with your parents or family you grew up with.

I.E. my cousins grew up in a southern state in a rural area, they never acquired a slow talking accent because their parents and grandparents were from New York City. Although two of my cousins never actually lived in a city during their childhood they did not develop an accent.

Also accent's can tend to go away over time. If you associate yourself with someone who real proper you may over the course of a few years nearly eradicate it.

It's not really what anyone would call a condition, I think it's best if you accept it as a part of you and learn not to be embarassed. You are who you are and you shouldn't feel ashamed

  3. Everybody has an accent. I wouldn't call it a condition, nor would I call it a problem if you are easily understood.

When I was in Yemen, we would sometimes challenge new friends to guess where we were from. I wasn't too hard to figure out but there was one man on our project who spoke English with a Southern U.S. accent (DEEP South) and French syntax. Now, HE was a problem. If anyone cares, he was a Pied Noir raised in Algeria and living (mostly) in the southcentral U.S.
