  1. if this is a vista system just press windows button then control panel it has options to change start up programs. but if it vista like mine it is unfortunately very slow whatever you do. mine 3 to 4 minute boot time with dual core and lots of ram

  2. Go to Run > MsConfig > Start up > Select the things that are useless at start up, leave your AV on :)

  3. Did u get it from Asda for £279?

  4. Most applications which start with your Operating System these days don't do it via the startup menu.

This is why you'll find a lot of processes running on your system with few or no programs in Startup.

A much more sensible approach is to use the Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete, Task Manager) to look at the processes which are running on your machine.

Sort by CPU time and-or memory usage then google the names of the processes. If you think you don't need the application with which the process is associated, remove it via Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

Acers typically come with all sorts of Acer nonsense pre-installed on them (particularly if you're using Vista). A good start would be to find these apps and uninstall them.

See if that improves your startup time.

  5. Dell™ Vostro™ Laptops

  6. Press "Windows Key (The Start Menu Key) and R" at the same time, once the "Run" window comes up, type "Msconfig" without the quotes. After that, go to the startup tab, and un-check anything you don't want to start at startup.

    Hope this helps.

  7. press windows logo, all programs, scroll to startup, then just del what u dont want
