I have an advanced 3 1/2 y.o. that seems to not have a conscience. It's like he enjoys being in trouble. Help?

  1. Is it possible that he has made the connection that if he acts bad, he gets more attention?

    Or perhaps he is given a mixed message, such as adults laughing at his behavior and then being punished for it (we do do that, too...)


  2. Excellent answer Jason.  And mom,  he's 3!!!!  When do you remember your first attack of conscience?  If you're meaning he has no fear it's because he hasn't been taught to fear it yet.  They don't "develop" this on their own - it has to be taught.  

    He's exploring, seeing what is ok and what isn't ok.  When he gets into "trouble" as you call it...redirect his attention.  Instead of saying 'no' all the time - give him things he "can" do.  Sit with him with jumbo crayons at this age, read him a book, take him out and play a game of ball toss, a simple balloon in the house will keep him busy for hours (if it doesn't break that is) lol,  He's perfectly normal and healthy if he's getting into trouble.  Relax and enjoy
