  1. sorry to say it's probably not antique unless you know it is very very old.  It sounds like something sold as a tourist souvenir.  Most antique lockets in Ireland would be plain silver or gold and would not have such a thing written on it.

Take it to a real antique dealer to have it assessed.

  2. Worthless, only to the person who bought it

  3. www.blarneycastle.com

  4. Hmm...

Blarney is a tourist mecca in the South of Ireland. There are tons of touristy shops in the town, not to mention the Castle's own tourist shop, and the Blarney Mills shopping centre, which is a huge local industry, focussing on Irish textiles and other stuff.

Sadly, the fact is your locket may be just a typical necklace/locket that is sold as a memento of the area. An actual stone from the Blarney castle is probably illicitly obtained - it is a national monument. Your locket is likely such a memento, with a local bit of rock inserted in it. That isn't to say it's worthless - just not as unique as you might hope.

But where did you get it? The older it is, the more likely it has unique or special provenance, rather than being a typical tourist item. You say it is antique - does it have any symbol or engraving on it? Has it been in your family for a long time? Take it to a appraiser, someone who can age it, or comment on its design or manufacture. A local one in Cork city or the surrounding area would be best.

Best of luck finding out about it.
