I have to prepare two monologues and a song. Has anyone got any advice on which monologues to do and how to approach the audition?

  1. usually for general auditions like this, you must prepare two contrasting monologues: one comedic the other dramatic. and sometimes they may want them to contrasting in time periods also:one classical and one contemporary. so your aud may consist of a comedic contemporary peice and a dramatic classical one- or vice versa.

as far as the song goes..... im not into musical theatre but i'll use common sense as a performer..... just work on one that will SHOWCASE your abilities! lol not one that will just show them. so if you have a great range in your voice, pick a song that will show that off. if you can hit that high mariah carey thing, do it! lol but DO NOT work on a song that you cant perform... so if you cant do mariah- dont pick of her songs!

your aud is in sept and its the beginning of aug.... i highly recommend you start working on your peices now! lol..... well at least start searching for them...

another source that may help with your questions is the theatre's website. it should give you all the info you would need to know for the audition...

hope i helped! AND GOOD LUCK!!! (i had bad luck with the whole "break a leg" thing so i dont use it anymore....) and more importantly- have fun!

  2. I'm not to familiar with monologues, but if they do shakespeare it maybe good to do one so they can see you can handel it. Just be confident, show it and have a good time. This is going to be a great experience and you should enjoy it. Be professional.

This probably doesn't really help, oh well haha break a leg! =]

  3. my free book has a lot in it about choosing and presenting monologues for auditions, read my profile for more info.
