I was asleep last week and I woke up and couldn't find my earring back. My ear had been infected and swollen the day before. I discovered that the earring back got stuck in my ear! The skin has now healed over. What should I do?

  1. Could this be caused by purple urine???? Two points 4 me. Whoohoo!

  2. I hate to say this, but  it is going to hurt. Apply some form of lubricant like butter or lotion, then gently rock the clasp back and forth until it comes loose. Afterwards, if this is a new piercing or there is any bleeding at all, put the earring back in and clean it thoroughly with rubbing alcohol, peroxide or water and disinfectant soap.

If it still hurts try putting some ice on it to keep it from swelling around the post or the hole itself (that will be the real source of pain) and as a numbing agent.

I am telling you to put the earring back in because if you leave it like that, scarring tissue will form over and you will need to pierce again.

  3. Contact a doctor immediately. DO NOT try to remove it yourself because an unsafe procedure could cause infection.
