This employee is a hard worker, however, she is very "bossy" at times, and comes up with excuses every time I question, sometimes is loud and rude, etc. I want to give her a write up, any suggestion? She also feels overwhelmed, and I think she is doing a job that she is not capable of.

  1. I would say write her up and also worn her. If she still gives excuses let her go.

  2. Sounds like you have the temperamental type on your hands.  And this will require you to be extra careful.

You want to  take her out of her environment, & into a closed office.  You want to have another supervisor there also.  It's best you state upfront she's being given a written warning.  If she starts to say anything, state you want her to listen quietly, that this is not a debate.

Then go over your concerns, state what she will need to do to improve, & your expectation of when it must happen by.  Finish by asking her if she's feeling overwhelmed at her current position?  This is another issue altogether, but one that you can & should address.

State that you are there to help her in any way you can.  But the behaviors must change if she desires to continue working for you.

When you're finished, walk to the door & open it.  Say nothing more.  After she has left the room, have the other supervisor sign & date your copy of the warning, & add any additional comments.

Follow-up by the deadline you've given.  If the behaviors remain unchanged, have her severance package (if any) waiting.

    Good luck.
