  1. Try reinstall your computer.. See if you get your ports working again.

It's likely to believe that the USB ports can't supply power anymore and therefore you can't get anything to work.

I had the same problem on one of my laptops.. I then added a extra card to the laptop.. Sunsway have different cards for this (2 or 4 USB 2.0 ports)

    look here:

You might need an extra poweradaptor to the card.. To supply enough power to the ports..

    - zap

  2. You can't. Just buy a small external hub (they come in the size of a matchbox now) and plug it into the working port, hence giving you 4 ports.

  3. Alicia's correct- the USB ports are soldered onto the motherboard- you can't just go down to the local Circuit City and pick up some replacements (unfortunately).

Either exchange the laptop- depending on how old it is- or get a USB hub, like Alicia said.

  4. I am guessing you mean 3 USB ports.  What happens when you try to use the 2 of them?  Do items only detect on one of them?

You can not "change" them yourself (physically replace them) without replacing you whole motherboard.
