  1. Haha, its not some weird gas in your lines. Although that did make me laugh. The problem is within your ice maker or water valves. Call a tech to come out & take a look so you don't end up nickeling & dimeing yourself to death on parts that your not sure you need.

  2. Yes, the both problems are caused by a low fill of water.

The thermostat for the icemaker, which tells the icemaker the cubes are frozen is located at the head or "front" end of the icemaker.

It fills from the other end. So if the water doesn't fill enough to fill all the way to the front, then there is no water in the front space to keep the thermostat warmer and it reaches "ice" temperature (17 degrees F.) too fast before the water in the rest of the icemaker has frozen. Then they break when ejected and you end up with a block of ice in the bucket.

Most common cause is low water flow. (but can be inlet valve).  Water pressure in the home below 40 lbs can cause it.

The tap valve where the waterline is tapped to the plumbing or the faucet in the icemaker supply box is a little plugged up are the main reasons this happens.  Those tap valves plug up too easily and often.

Sometimes you can remove the copper or plastic line from the tap valve and using a bucket open the valve and flush it out. Sometimes it needs to be disassembled (requires shutting of the water)  or a new one installed might be easier.

    Good Luck.

  3. More than likely the water fill is not long enough and your not getting the proper amount of water, which will cause hollow cubes. And sometimes they don't eject and water refills again and then you get too much water causing larger block of ice cubes.

To adjust water level (cube size) pop front cover off and you should see an adjustment s***w for water level ( on right side) most of the time! If you can't figure it out, you need to call a repairman to do it.

  4. Friend (you ARE a male aren't you?), you DO have a weird problem.  Your freezer section is at the BOTTOM of your Amana fridge -- and it can make both regular ice tea size cubes and large (l ft. cube?!?) blocks of ice -- BUT all of the cubes of ice your freezer makes have gas holes of some sort in their centers that makes them hollow?!?

OY!! OY!! Your water supply MUST have an excess of some kind of unknown and (hopefully harmless) gas entrapped in it, which is released when the water starts freezing to collect in the center of each cube of potential solid ice.  MAN, that really IS weird!  *I* just DON'T KNOW!!
