  1. Patent protection is the way to go, but as you probably know, patents are expensive. The USPTO offers a supposedly less expensive alternative, called a Provisional Patent (PP), which protects your idea  for 12 months. After 12 months, you have to file for a patent or renew the PP for another 12 months.

But a PP has pitfalls that may end up costing more in the long run.

The filing fees for a PP are considerably less (around $200USD), and the application is easier, so you can file it yourself without having to pay patent lawyers to do that for you. At least, that's the spirit of a PP.

But the drawback is that, when it comes time to file a patent, you can't add any new clains to your PP. This often turns out to be a problem for inventors. A year later after filing the PP, inventors find ways to improve their invention, or modify it for a broader use. If you want to protect any improvements you've made, you'll have to file another patent. Now you're filing two patents, which costs more.

Remember: once the PP is filed, you can't change it. So, even if you don't change your invention within the timeframe of the PP, you want to be sure that your PP was written to include every possible protection claim it needs to give your idea strong protection. For that you need the expertise of a patent lawyer. So, at this point, you have to wonder if filing a PP saves money.

A PP has its advantages in some situations. You can read more about that in the links below. And if you're thinking that 12 months might buy you the time needed to find investors, who may be willing to put up the costs of extra patent filing if needed, a PP might be worth considering.

    Best of luck!

  2. You should patent the product in England but first U should check wether your Reasearch is already patented.......

  3. Yes, patent it. Copyrights are useless for this, a copyright will only protect the actual print from being copied, copyrights do -not- protect ideas or processes or items.

Be prepared with a lot of money for lawyers. Patent protection is entirely civil, which means you must file, you must pay lawyers. Police don't get involved in patent disputes, the state won't get involved except to provide the judge and jury.

  4. if u r having any such ideas which u think can be stolen from u den first step u must do do is to get it copyrighted. once u get its copy rights den no one can use it in d same sen

  5. Be careful this is not a perpetual motion machine, as they cannot be patented (in the US).

    And they don't work anyway.

So before you spend money or time, get someone to check out your idea for feasibility.
