I have an inground pool, 18'x22', diving board, 8 foot deep at one end. Safe for kids to jump off the board?

The pool is concrete and I'm wondering what safety rules to put down. They want to jump in the pool and I'm thinking the only safe spot to jump in would be off the diving board. What do you think?

  1. Back in the 1980's diving boards flew off pools!

Insurance companies threaten to revoke homeowners policies, if they left the boards in place.

Now in some case, the manufactures will offer  insure the board.

Diving is just risky with or without a board.

    Not like trained competitive swimmers.

    Check your homeowners policy.

If there is to be diving, by all means print the rules & post them.

  2. I am a member of a swim team, and my pool only goes five feet deep off the diving blocks. It isn't the same though because we dive outward instead of crazy flips and stuff. But in my opinion if one person jumps in at a time in the 8 feet it should be OK.

  3. I'd put water in it first though....

  4. The NSPI  ( National Spa and Pool Institute), the governing body of pool manufacturers, has a set standard  for contractors to  maintain for pool construction. The pool should have a hopper ( deep end) of 8 1/2 feet and a proper slope or sufficient space, to the shallow end allowing for a glide during the dive. Your pool probably is 8 1/2 feet, not 8, to have been equipped with a diving board. So..yes, your diving board is an area designed to be used for jumping in. Whatever rules you decide on implementing regarding the rest of the pool , are up to you but I'd advise against letting them jump in, in the shallow end. That's just not a safe practise.
