I have a modem no router so only one computer can be connected at a time. For the longest time it was only the desktop that was ever connected. But recently we hooked up a laptop instead of the desktop and it worked fine. But today i purchased a brand new laptop(with vista) and i plugged it in. It worked fine. But then i transferred the ethernet cable over to the other pc and it could not connect. Im not sure what i can do now. No matter what i try i cannolt get the other laptop to access. \when i bring the cable back to the new pc it has no problem connecting. Im soo confused.

Thank you.

  1. ~smiling~  I think its better to take the needle out of your own eye first before you go off half ****** after the ISP!  Holy h**l!  Hate people like that.  Even if there is a problem, you dont need to be a ********!

On the computer that is not working... do the following -

    1) Connect It

    2) Reboot It while its connected

    3) Test to see if it works.

    4) If it doesnt, go Start > Run > type CMD

    5) In the black box type - ipconfig /release, type ipconfig /flushdns, type ipconfig /renew

    6) If it doesnt work type ipconfig /all and send it to me and I could help you more.

You should think about getting a switch so that you can have the both connected at the same time!

  2. I don't recommend you send your ipconfig /all screen shot to anyone you do not know thats alot of info your giving out, here is what you do use your help and support option in the start menu, type in DHCP and it should give you step by step instruction on how to configure TCP/IP, to automatic, and it should work just find when its set to automatic. if not write me back with the error code if one is provided and i could help you a bit more, but yeah top contributor or not, that command line gives you all of your physical addresses and your connections and also shows if netbios over TCP/IP is enabled. if you've already sent it I hope this guy is a good guy. peace

  3. ok this has happened before to me what i did at first to solve it is that i went to start then connect to and then i clicked on show all connections next you click on local area connection check if you have received any packets if you have not then click on support bar and click repair if this does not work unplug your modem for about a minute and then turn it back on and make sure everything is connected including the cable wire if that does not work then you should just call your internet provider and they will send a person to fix it for you
