I am graduating soon and am inexperienced with interviewing. This is my dream job and I would love some pointers.

  1. I find is always best to remain positive in an interview.  Remember, you are selling yourself.  You have to appear confident and ready to excel.    In interviews, you'll often be asked to describe your best assets, as well as your worst.  I never really say my worst asset, because it can really effect the outcome of the interview.  So, I'll say something like this, "I feel my worst asset is the fact that I'm too hard on myself.  I often want to do everything 150% and when I don't do that, I'm often hard on myself. I really strive to do my very best and sometimes I'm my own worst critic."   I find employers like this one.

In addition, know as much about the industry as possible.  Also, make sure you really show a passion and heart-felt interest in the profession.  If you show a lot of energy (in a mature way), about a particular profession, use positive words and remain confident about wanting excel, that should help.

Remember to be well-spoken, stay on topic with the job/industry and think before you answer.  That way, your answers will seem well-thought out and educated.

  2. I worked in  banquets for a  couple of years (not  just weddings)  and the skills that  the better  wedding co-ordinators that  I worked with  seemed to have  in abundance were the ability to shine and stay calm under pressure, basically be a reassuring island of calm in the middle of any storm! Other things  included resourcefulness and creativity  as well as bucket loads of tact. The rest you can be taught. It will take time for you to get to  know which vendors  are good at their  job and can be relied upon, it will also take time to know what venues are prepared to be more flexible all this can be taught. It's the skills that CAN"T be taught that will matter when you are trying to break in to an industry
