I've been singing for seven years with lessons. And I'm actually singing at the California State Fair on Sunday. I have an interview with them tomorrow and I just want to know what they can do to help me. Can they set me up with auditions? HELP!

  1. Interviews work both ways.  Not only are they looking to see if they want to work with you, but this is your opportunity to find out what they can do to help advance your career.  You're going to "sell" yourself and your talent to them, but they are going to try to "sell" their agency to you.

Be sure to ask this question -- and any other questions you have -- at your interview tomorrow.  How do they get paid? do they take a percentage of your performance earnings, or do they expect you to pay them an upfront fee (be VERY suspicious if they ask for money upfront). What kind of connections do they have within the entertainment industry? Will they book you guaranteed gigs, or just send you out on auditions?

Use the interview to find out everything you need to know before you decide whether to sign up with them or not.  Remember, going on an interview doesn't obligate you to do anything.   And don't sign anything until you've had a chance to review the contract and discuss everything with your parents or someone you trust.
