  1. Underwriters tend to be people who like solving problems. It is an in-office position than requires making financial decisions on pricing and risk for the insurer.  You will be working with agents and other company people, and must be able to communicate well and articulate things in a friendly but logical way. Days can be long and it means being able to priortize and maintain productivity while keeping a good attitude, even in the face of many pressing deadlines and objectives.

Present examples of how you have done these things in your life. How have you worked in a team to reach an objective?  What kinds of school projects have you really enjoyed? What kinds of work or projects have you done in your part-time work, school and community associations where you solved complex issues with lots of deadlines and other people with different pressures?  How did you solve problems where you couldn't satisfy everyone?  What are you favorite subjects and why?

Chubb has a great training program. They are tough, team interviewers, and I didn't make it.

Prepare well by writing out answers to the above and be honest with yourself if you're a fit or not.  Never get defensive and always keep a good attitude, and offer examples of how you do that in your life overall.  Good luck.

  2. Have you researched what an underwriter does?  That would help.
