I have an io26 firewire

Question

I have an io26 firewire audio interface linked to my macbook. When i record in cubase le4n i'm only getting sound out of the left headphone and its seriously quiet. I have set the audio/midi settings to the alesis product but when i do that the volme bar is greyed out so you can't control input or output settings. can you help?I'm using a newish macbook, 2ghz, 120gb using osx 10.4.11
