I went to the hospital on sunday morning at 3am, They opened it up, Drained it, And packed it with gauze. Half of that gauze is hanging out, When I sleep at night, I toss and turn and wake up several times from it hurts and being uncomfortable, The pain med they gave me is Lortab, Its only making me feel "weird" and itchy, Its taking none of the pain away, It seems like as the days go by this thing is hurting worse, I work in housekeeping and Iv called off yesterday and today, It really sucks! Should I go back to this hospital, Or is this normal or what?

  1. Yes, go back or consult a Dr. This does not sound normal. Could be an infection or something.

  2. I would suggest calling your doctor to see what they say. Otherwise yes i would go back to the ER

  3. Its normal for these to be extremely painful, but usually the pain diminishes after draining.  Since things are getting worse instead of better, its probably a good idea to go back to the ER or an urgent care center (if you have one near you).  You probably need to be on antibiotics and maybe need to have a small drain tube inserted to keep it open.

If Lortabs are making you itchy, you are allergic to the medicine, and its not a good idea to continue taking it - this is a very common allergy.

  4. Go back and have them check you. I assume they gave you antibiotics also, besides lancing it. If the Lortab is making you feel weird, they need to change the pain medicine too. They may need to change the packing of the wound as well.
