Trees will show autumnal coloration if they are under stress.  The oak tree you are describing is beginning to turn colors either because of an inappropriate amount of water or an unbalanced soil level due to ground water contamination or surface soil contamination.  An example of this would be a pH that is far off from ideal levels for a tree.  If your area is going through a drought and you believe the tree will survive soon with a bit of your help, you should be okay with just checking the pH of the soil beneath the tree... soil acidity for your red oak should be between 5.0 and 7.5.  If this doesn't seem to be the problem please look into having a professional assess the problem...  Good luck!
