I have an older Hi8 camcorder, should I still use it or should I get a MiniDV camcorder?

Which has better quality and would be all around better.

MiniDV has better quality and greater resolution....

HDV and MiniDV have about the same quality.....one has lower compression while the other one has higher resolution....go with HDV...

MiniDV has better picture quality, it's easier to edit and the tapes are easier to find.  But if you're happy with Hi8 and you've enough tape....

hi8 is an obsolete format. i would archive important footage to DVD while the camcorder is still working.  you should do new work in miniDV. Hi8 was invented in the era when editing was only done by professionals using very expensive deck-to-deck equipment. miniDV loads directly into a computer and anyone can edit video inexpensively. being able to edit adds a lot of fun and value to your hobby.
