I have an older bass boat that the gel coat is gone you can feel the metal flake. need steps to repaint.?

do i prime first,paint,put metal flake in clear.whats a good all around gun.tip size for primeing,paint,clear with flake .004.

  1. You could just put 1 or 2 coats of gel coat on, which you can gat at any marina or marine store (e.g. west marine). If you want to repaint, sand the boat down, put a coat of primer on, then you should put a coat of metal flake on, OR mix the matal flake in with the paint. If you're going to mix the metal flake in with the paint, than use a 1.3mm - 1.5mm nozzle size should be good.


  2. Sand all the paint off or it will never fill the flake thats left and it will feel like sand paper> flake has to be shot with clear and if done wrong will stand up instead of laying down> And your back where you started>Fine some 1 that paints metal flake and have them do it>

  3. mine was the same way and if you dont know no more than that you aint got no business fooling with it

    its a gel coat on boats not paint and clear coat
