I have an onkyo TX-SE500 and everytime i turn it on it tells me system protect is there a code i need to reset

  1. Not likely. You may have a blown fuse inside or some other type of internal problem.

Generally speaking, the SYSTEM PROTECTmessage shows up when one or more of your speaker leads are shorted out or the impedance of a combined load of speakers is too low.  Check all of your speaker wires and be sure that none of them are shorted at the reciever and at the speakers.  If it seems that everything is in order there.  Disconnect ALL of your speakers and turn the receiver on.  If it comes on the way it's supposed to hook up each speaker until it shuts off.  That's where the problem is.  Replace the wire.  Try a different speaker.  If when all the speakers are unhooked it still show the SYSTEM PROTECT message, it's time to go to the repair shop.
