I have koi and faintail in an outdoor pond. One of the babies (who was born in our pond) has flukes. I am in the process of treating the entire pond for this with all of the recommended methods. My questions are;

1. How did I get this in my pond? I had the pond put in 2 years ago, and have never had a problem until now.

2. How long do the chemicals take to work? So far everyone else looks great, but the one younger fish is still sluggish and swimming close to the surface.

I've done two days of treatment now.

  1. It's nothing a gallon of bleach won't take care of.

  2. I guess if no one else has it, it must be a fluke that he does! ha ha ha ha....

    Yeah I once had a hug fish tank and it did awesome until I moved then everything died:( I tried again but yup you guessed it they all died again! I think it was the water?! Sorry I couldn'tt bring more then my usual charm to you on this one:)

  3. gill flukes can be remove manually and you just add rocksalt with methylene blue or malachete  or skin flukes just the same however you should quarantine the fish not treat the whole tank its hard to check them if they are improving.

  4. Sorry, Bean...the only fish I know anything about are brown trout.

  5. I saw where Potassium Permanganate was recommended and also that snails may be a part of the infestation.  I've found one website on treatment.  It doesn't sound easy.  Good luck!
