I have an outlet with three prongs for my old dryer, i bought a new a new one with four prongs how can i fix?

if there is a ground wire in the wire coming from the panel, then change the outlet to a four prong outlet.  If it is only a three prong then change the cord on the dryer.  If you change the outlet to a four prong  (like suggested) without a ground wire then the dryer would not be grounded.  If one of the hot wires shorted out to the metal of the dryer the entire dryer would be energized.  I would not want to be grounded and touch the dryer.  You would be in for a big suprise!!  Be careful on the advice you take when it comes to electricity.

your new dryer should give you the option between a 3 or 4 prong plugin and should have instructions on how to swap them out....you need a three prong dryer cord

DO NOT change the prongs on the new dryer line.  You must change the recepticle in the wall box.  good luck.

Older dryers can with a ground strap, a wire you were supposed to connect to a pipe. But few people used it. Now the earth ground is on the plug. That is the fourth prong.

You will be safer changing the outlet and not the cord if you don't already have a ground wire connected to it. And I am betting you don't.

If you fit a 3 pin plug to the dryer it will void the warranty.

If you get a 4 pin socket to the wall, nothing else will fit it.

You can change the plug on the dryer or you can change the receptacle (which should be done by someone who is qualified).
