How often do I need to change all the water in the habitat? There's a few fish and a turtle. The water is clear, a little 'goop' has settled and built up on the bottom. I can use a fish tank vacumm for that or I can clean the whole tank. I also replace 1/4 to 1/3 of the water at least once a week. His water is probably 25 gallons and the pump is a 45 gallon per hour maximum. It pumps up and then the water runs through a fish filter (2 layers and some charcoal pebbles). What do you think?

Thanks for any and all answers.

  1. You may not need to change the water at all only to clean the filter periodically.

What type of fish?  You may need to do a water test to determine the amount of nitrates, nitrites, total hardness, salt level, alkalinity and pH.

If any of these terms are strange you want want to get a book on ponds and fish that will help you understand the environment that you've created.
