I took Interpersonal Communications and toward the end of the semester my grandmother passed away and I could not finish the course so I received an "Incomplete" for the course, how do I can I fix that? I thought I could retake the course, but I can not register for it because of the Incomplete...

  1. Talk directly to the prof that gave you the "I".  It is up to him/her to tell you what you must do to complete the course.  (college prof)

  2. Read 'Incomplete' as 'Unfinished' .....it means there is work outstanding that you have to do double time on - your present AND extra studies to catch up! ... you need to continue with college as normal AND add in the extra work, to bring you up to date on your course...!  You can't re- register for a course you have already registered on - because you haven't finished it yet!.... you can however make up the difference and hand in the outstanding work later - it may mean suffering penalties though.  Speak with your tutors to get the picture of what you need to do and their understanding and support to get you through it.

    Good luck!:)

  3. you should first speak with the instructor for your course. then speak with your college adviser if a solution doesn't present itself with the instructor. more than likely you will have to retake the course and your adviser will be able to help you with scheduling it into your college curriculum so that it doesn't keep you from graduating on time.

  4. If you got an incomplete, it usually means that there is only a relatively small amount of work missing, such as one paper or an exam you didn't take.  Talk to the professor you had for the class before - he or she should be able to tell you what is needed.  There is usually a deadline for completing an incomplete before it turns into an F, so I would check on this as soon as possible.

  5. You have two choices.

    1.  You can talk to the professor to see what you need to do to finish the class.  He may allow you to attend the class next semester and give you the grade that you earn then.

    2.  You can talk to the someone in the Registrar's Office and have the grade changed to "Withdraw" -- which would allow you to sign up for the class again.

    I suggest trying #1 first.
