So tomorrow is my first day at work (I work at Papaya) and my boss said to come in for orientation. What can I expect and how long should this take?

Thanks!

  1. It's an overview about the job criteria.  They vary in length.  You'll probably get the basics about the work you will do, along with company policies, benefits etc.  Congrats!

  2. An orientation is just a meeting to get familiar with your work place and job.  Orientations vary from company to company to company and can last anywhere from a few minutes to the entire work day or several workdays.  I would be prepared to work right away, so go dress in appropriate attire.

  3. Basically they go over all the rules and show you how to do your job. You'll probably have some other people there with you. Don't worry about it. ^_^. Gratz on the job.

  4. Orientation = your boss goes over the company policies with you.

    It's routine at any company.

  5. should take about an hour, give or take. they will walk through how to clock in and what most of your tasks would be, what else goes on at the job, where things are and possibly paper work (take another form of ID in addition to your drivers license such as a birth certificate).

  6. Expect a couple of hours.  You will be given a bunch of paperwork to sign, a handbook you will never read, your uniform, maybe your schedule for training, and probably watch a video on company policy.  All in all a very easy day and most places pay you for it.

  7. I don't know anything about Papaya, but any job I've had over the years the orientation lasted all day & included:

         1.  Taking a tour of the company, plant, location, etc. to

get an idea how the job I'd be doing fit in the "big picture"

before returning to the area that I'd actually be working in.

         2.  Meeting people along the way on my tour, then being

introduced to those in my department when I returned

            from my tour.

         3.  Being given time to read over all the literature I was

given by HR/Personnel + any other instruction manuals

or guidelines for the department I would be working in.

         4.  Possibly, starting to train on the actual duties I would

be performing on my new job.  Sometimes, this was left

to be done on my 2nd day.

But, orientation sessions vary from company to company & job to job, so what I just listed above could be wrong for the job you're starting.  Next time you start a new job, ask what all is included in their orientation session.  Its okay to ask.  In fact, some people might find it to be a sign of initiative on your part that you're interested in knowing what will be covered.

  9. I  think that your boss wants to show you what you are supposed to do, show you around and train you in a way.  It could be as short a time as half an hour or it could be a full days work.  Its for you to get to know your environment before starting work.

  10. Orientations can take 15 minutes or a whole day.  Sometimes they just include a review of where things are (exits, washrooms, parking, lunch room, first aid, etc.) and sometimes an orientation can include some job shadowing, meeting staff, filling out paperwork and more.

    good luck

  11. You can probably expect to be shown around the place, introduced to the people who work there and told about training or be given some training.
