I have another ALGEBRA question??

I asked a question like this and I had it figured out, but now I need help on this one.

Solve for y. Then find the value of y for the given value of x.

xy - 3x = 40 ; x = 5

5(y)-3(5)=40

5(y)-15=40

5(y)+15(to get rid of the neg 15)=40+15

5(y)=55

devide by 5 cause its the opposite of multiplying 5(y)

55 devided by 5=??????

(5)y - 3(5) = 40

5y - 15 = 40  move 15 to give:

5y = 40 + 15

5y = 55

5y/5 = 55/5  divide both sides by 5 to leave y by itself

y = 55/5

y = 11

5y-15=40

Substitute the x=5 every where you see an x.  

so 5y-3*5=40

5y-15=40 (simplify)

5y=55 (adding 15 to both sides)

y=11 (dividing by 5 on both sides)
