Ok...i am a junior in high school and will soon start to apply to college and stuff. When School starts again i'll be taking all hard classes...2 AP classes and possibly calculus. I played tennis for a year and can't make up my mind if i should play again this year. Now here is my question......

1. If i don't play this year will colleges see that and possibly ask how come i played for a year and didn't continue on with the sport?

2. Should i quit tennis...this will give me more time to study for the SAT which i have to take and along with that i will have time to fill out college applications and I also have a program that i want to do during tennis season.

3. I mean i have done tuns of other things as well like volunteering and i have taken other mini med school classes and i have certification for CPR and Basic first aid. And i am in many clubs and i hold the secretary office position for most of them.

4. finally...the things that i have done gear more towards medical stuff..i mean i volunteered at a hospital and you know the mini med classes so will college consider that a well rounded student or will they think that i am just focusing on one thing and that's medical stuff.

Please HELP me i think that i am going to loose it completely.

  1. Colleges won't care if you don't play tennis anymore.

They are more concerned with your test scores and whether or not you can afford the tuition.

If you really love tennis and want to play, then go ahead and play.

  2. Extracurriculars are important to have.  But they are easy to pad and hard to verify.  Therefore, the top colleges don't put nearly as much weight on them as people think.  The most important factors for you getting into a top school are your GPA and SAT scores.  Beyond that, your admissions essay is the most important thing.

If you have played tennis and volunteer in a hospital, then you are on the right track.

  3. Well it depends on what college you want to apply to if it's just a regular 2 or 4 year college don't worry about if it's a big school like Harvard and the medical schools then yes you need to be what they call a well rounded person volunteering, sports, clubs that's ok that you're only geared toward medical if you want to continue to play tennis after you've done your SAT's and applied to colleges this will be good too be honest that the reason you only played tennis for a year

  4. That is a lot to think about.  Schools usually won't ask about why someone quit a sport unless you quit in the middle of your senior year and you were really good (like scholarship good).  If you don't like tennis and don't want to try for a tennis scholarship at the college of your choice.  And even if you quit now you can always try out next year or even when you are in college you can go for it again.  You just have to decide what is most important for you right now.
