It just means you are you. You can have friends and a life and loves and whatever else your heart desires. It's just having a mind that's wired differently from others. One great way I've heard it explained was "It's like having a Mac brain in a PC world."

What are Autism Spectrum Disorders?

Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), also known as Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDDs), cause severe and pervasive impairment in thinking, feeling, language, and the ability to relate to others.
