  1. You should be pretty safe, but it also depends on numerous details about what you use your computer for.

    Also, more than one antivirus program can make them conflict against each other and be less protective than just having one.

    I suggest using just AVG antivirus plus your copy of anti spy. AVG is free and has served many people (me included) well.

  2. Try not to have more than one antivirus on your computer. Since those programs monitor and control your computer (much like a virus), they start attacking each other, thinking the other antivirus is a virus.

    Personally, I would recommend Avast! or AVG. Those work great, and are free. Don't fall for Norton or McAfee just because they're endorsed by Microsoft - they are actually quite out-of-date most of the time, and slow your computer down tremendously.

    Avast! can be downloaded here: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.ht...

    AVG can be downloaded here: http://free.avg.com/

    Remember, more is not better. So if you have AVG, get rid of all the other antivirus programs you have on there.

    Hope that helps. :)

  3. You need one more.

    Anti-malware..Install Malwarebytes, its free

  4. Just get your self some internet security suite as Norton , McAfee , NOD , Kaspersky ( regarding that you are so worried about yours machine safety it shouldn't by a problem to spear 20-40£ on security suite ) .

    If you gonna install one of major security suits it will automatic shut down windows defender ( to anti virus systems can fight with one other ) you won't need super anti spy as well .

    Good internet security suite should have real time protection , virus scan , firewall , phishing , spam , spy ware protection , parental control . Just go to web page of any vendor and choose one for your self ( by careful with Norton if you'll pay with credit card they will automatic sign you to another year renewal - just send them e mail regarding subscription , but on the other hand you can always get really good discount for Symantec products just google for the codes )

  5. yeah try to find a data recovery program

  6. http://www.consumersearch.com/www/softwa...

    I use the security software recommended by Consumer Search.  They look at reviews from all over and make recommendations.

  7. avast is good

  8. Yes, it is.

    However, Windows is pretty vulnerable anyway. There are zillions of trojans, viruses, backdoors and etc.

    If you want some extra-security, download Spybot-Search & Destroy. If you activate the Tea Timer and resident shield, it will tell you anytime that a program is trying to make an alteration to your system's registry.

    You can download it at

    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl...

    it's free and you can donate some money if you want. But they don't ask for any card numbers. Just click download and this is it.

  9. Anti viruses are good security but they are  not enough to make complete security of your pc .

    - theres over 200 virus and Trojans made each day .

    - most spywares are undetectable by most AVs , hackers use

    encryption methods ,  hexadecimal  and entry point changes etc..

    * Use one AV , Avira .

    * don't accept\open untrusted files [spec .exe]

    * don't open untrusted links

    * keep your AV up to date

    * some ports need to be closed

  10. It's good if you have a firewall to go along with them.

  11. Another couple of good things to bolster your security is an anti-rootkit which may help find malware that anti-virus and anti-spyware does not.

    and also some anti-phishing software such as siteadvisor which protects against spammy sites.

  12. I spend my day reviewing findings on the security status of many different pcs running different OSes. No one OS is truly any more vulnerable than any other. The key is to keep your patches up to date. With that said, your choices are alright. I personally use AVG Free for my AV, Windows Defender for Spyware/Malware, ThreatFire for heuristic AV to compliment AVG and to catch root-kits, and I have a hardware firewall built into my router to compliment Windows Firewall. All of the tools except the hardware firewall are free. No matter what you go with, I would recommend putting a router between your pc and your internet connection.
