I have been applying on usajobs.gov which is the official federal government jobs websites, but no response?

What do I need to do differently? I have a good education, several degrees and have heard nothing back.

  1. They use several resume filtering applications that look for key words on your resume - if the are not present - you don't make it to the hiring managers for an interview.


  2. The thousands of other people applying for the same jobs as you also have a good education and several degrees. The people being chosen for interviews have contacts within the organizations they are applying to, contacts who know them from previous work, from conferences they have attended, from associations they are both members of, from references, etc.

    Resumes don't get people interviews -- contacts and networking do.


  3. Since online recruiters and job sites receive over 80,000 resumes a day. they use an electronic filter to search for keywords matching their requirements for the job. Think of it like hitting the Ctrl-F or F3 button on your computer to skip to the certain keyword(s) you're searching for in long paragraphs. Try repeating what qualifications they have listed in your cover letter, ksa's, and resume to be a better match. Like solving a word problem; the answer is provided for you in their description.  

  4. yeah that happens sometimes, maybe call and see if they received your resume. it usually lists a human resources rep. that can be contacted within the vacancy you are applying for.
