i have been bitten by my 3 yr old cat 1 hour ago. I accidentally stepped into his paws and he just bit my ankle and it bleeds. I immediately washed it with water and soap over and over again. And then put Sanitary Balm on it. What more should I do? I'm afraid to go to doctor cause my parents don't know it yet. Pls help me, I'm worried..

  1. A cat bite has a very high risk of infection due to the deep puncture their teeth can make in your skin , which pushes the bacteria way in ( much higher than a dog bite). One source (possibly JAMA article I read years ago, not sure) stated that cat bite infection rates were as much as to 75 %.   If you get any redness, swelling, or pain around the bite area, please tell your parents to take you to the doctor.  Untreated skin infections can lead to big problems, like infections in the joint and bones.  You may just need an antibiotic to clear the infection.

  2. What you're doing is just fine-but wash it at least once a day. Place a band-aid over it so that it won't get infected.

  3. Does it hurt a lot? I mean really think. If it hurts a LOT, then yes go to a doctor. I dont know your age, so I can't say if parents or doctor comes first. You have to decide.

If it doesnt, then maybe dont worry.

My father had to go to the ER from a cat bite. The bite was on his wrist.  I would get it checked out.

  4. I've never worried about cat bites or scratches. You've cleaned the wound- change the bandage when you should and keep applying medicine, etc. It should be fine in a couple of days but if it gets badly infected, tell your parents and see the doctor. I know you didn't mean to step on your cats paws but biting was his natural reaction to the pain he went through. I'm a (young) adult now and I'd only have told my parents if they saw the wound or if I really needed to go to the doctor.

Now, if a wild animal like a squirrel or something ever bites you, THEN tell your parents... but as long as your cat has its shots up to date, you won't run risk of something very serious.

  5. tell your parents i'm sure they wont be mad u did step on the cat so u deserved to be bitten lol j/k if it gets infected it could be a big problem cat bits are very dangerous and if ur worried about what will happen to the cat dont worry no one can make u put your own cat down for bitting and since its your u know its healthy

  6. Well, if your cat has his shots and you aren't like in really really terrible pain you should be fine. If your cat doesnt have all his shots, or if your in alot of pain then get a docter
