I have been divorced for 6 years and my ex left me with 25k in credit card debt.

I live in Texas and understand that we do have statute of limitations laws here. I think 4 years, from what time are the creditors counting from? I refuse to pay my exess debt even if it has caused my credit score to drop. How long do I have to wait to clear this matter up so I can work on getting my credit back in order?
