I have been given a 1989 Mitsubishi Galant, how dangerous are the asbestos levels in this car?

Is this car safe to drive, or does age/wear and tear make levels of asbestos breathed in dangerous for me and my children? Can it enter the car in any way, just through driving?

Its not dangerous to drive the only thing that is dangerous are the other drivings on the road.

You can call or take it to carmax and they can tell you .

if you are referring to brake and clutch parts, in theory just being on the road with other cars makes you exposed to it. The parts that have it are replaceable, but any way you look  at it, even new parts would displace some asbestos particles just through normal use.

unless you're changing the brakes yourself, you shouldn't have a problem.  if your that worried about it, have the car checked for asbestos levels.
