  1. You can buy this can called the bug balm, you set it off in your house while your gone at work for the day and it will kill all the bugs in your home.  It works really well. This is what I use.

  2. They have a short life cycle and like damp and old vegetation. If you have plants and garbage, suspect them and spray.

  3. Shallow dish filled with vinegar, water and a dab of dish soap.  Works every time.

  4. Well one suggestion is next time you leave your house for a long period of time dont leave dirty dishes in your sink our garabage out or anything that attracts flies or gnats. You need to  try to get rid of them by yourself first, then if it dosent  work by  yourself you defintaly need to call a local exterminator be aware that this may be expensive deppending on the damage and to try by yourself just by the best bug spray you can find !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Your best recourse is chemicals. The supermarket and hardware stores have several flying insect spray options for you to choose from. Just about any one of these will take care of your gnat problem. Be sure to check the back of the label to make certain it isn't harmful to pets. If your home is experiencing an all-out infestation, you may need to look into a fogging product. This will require you to seal off cabinets and anywhere else food and eating implements are stored. Be sure to take the pets and leave the house for the day.

You can also get rid of gnats by using products found around the home. Since they are attracted to the scent of vinegar, fill a jar with vinegar and poke holes in the lid. The gnats will climb into the jar, but they won't be able to climb out. For those that remain in the house, try putting vegetable oil around your kitchen sink drain. Gnats finding themselves coated in the oil will be unable to breed. If you're not interested in potentially clogging your drain with vegetable oil, pouring a cup of ammonia down your kitchen sink is said to get rid of any flies hovering around that area. Let it sit for a couple of hours before using the sink again.

  6. I've had this happen to me before!! FIRST you'll need to find the source of the problem - maybe you forgot to empty the trash before you left? For me it was a bag of potatoes which began rotting in the kitchen! It smelled like a dead animal & the little gnats were coming from the bag.

    good luck...

  7. I'm not sure where I heard this, and I've never tried it... but I heard that you can boil water and it's either salt or sugar..i'm pretty sure it's salt, anyway if you boil those two items...the gnats are attracted to it and then they die in the boiling water...It's a cruel way to die :-(. but it'll get rid of them :-D lol

  8. Typically, gnats are attracted to waste baskets where you have discarded old food.  Place the waste baskets outside and spray them with bug spray.  If you've killed them all, you can bring them back in.  If not, I would seal them with a tie and place on the curb for the sanitation department.  I have waste baskets in the basement/garage where I put old catfood cans and old cat litter.  This really attracts bugs this time of year and they multiply quickly.  I spray once or twice a day.  If they get too bad, I'll just tie the bags and place outside until trash day.

  9. Fill a couple of bowls with about 1/2 inch of Vinegar.  Place plastic wrap over the top, secure.  Using a toothpick, poke several small holes, not too close together.  The gnats will be attracted to the smell, crawl in and for whatever reason, not be able to find their way out.

We did this at our office when garbage was not emptied before 4th of July weekend.

Move fruits & veggies to the fridge, including bags of potatoes, onions.  Using soap & water, clean all surfaces where those foods were resting.  Also, clean out trash cans.

    Hope this helps

  10. Hairspray and a lighter..aww thats fun

  11. Fly tape & or Vaccuum cleaner.

  12. dragon flies????? i know they eat gnats!!

  13. I'm thinking RAID, but you might have to call an exterminator.

    I'm sorry

  14. I had the same problem once, I feel your pain.  Mine came from some funky bananas I bought.  Here's what worked for me - it might take a while, up to a week depending on how bad it is.

    1. Place bowls of vinegar around the areas they congregate most around.

    2. Set up Fly Paper.

    3. Pour bleach down the drain if you think they came from discarded food.

    4. Clean the areas around where the gnats are with diluted bleach water/cleanser.

  15. I think everyone else has covered everything, BUT bleach WILL NOT get rid of them, so don't bother pouring it down drains and such. Only industrial strength drain cleaner will kill them AND any larvae hanging around as well. I had gnat larvae crawling out of my basement drain just a month or two ago (they look like tiny black worms), and poured bleach down there several times, and they just kept crawling right back out, until I went and bought industrial strength drain cleaner from Lowe's. It worked on the first try! Now, I make sure to pour a cupful of drain cleaner into the drain about once a month, and they haven't been back since. Make sure to ventilate well and try to stay out of the room for as long as possible when you use the drain cleaner!

  16. Do they look like this:

or more like regular fruit flies?

If the former, you'll need to do a two step process:  first use a gel designed for drain flies in all the drains.  Then set off a bug bomb (move all pets out of the house for two days).

Use Drano, the type that fills the drain completely and touches every surface of the pipes. This will reduce the breeding ground for drain flies.

If you have only fruit flies, then just use the bomb, and get rid of any foods or kitty litter they're feeding on.

  17. oh no, but hopefuly this will help you

If you don't want gnats around, you have to cut off their food supply. This means fruits and vegetables have to go in the refrigerator or a bin the bugs can't penetrate. Make sure house plants stay damp, but not wet, and they must have the proper drainage. Gnats just love over-watered house plants. Empty trashcans regularly and don't allow rotting food to sit in the house. Make sure all trash receptacles and sink drains are cleaned thoroughly, and don't have any old rancid food stuck to them. Never let dirty dishes stand in the sink.

Your best recourse is chemicals. The supermarket and hardware stores have several flying insect spray options for you to choose from. Just about any one of these will take care of your gnat problem. Be sure to check the back of the label to make certain it isn't harmful to pets. Gnats are a source of irritation for many, but you don't have to let this happen to you. Dispose of food properly and don't over water your house plants. If gnats do get in the house, act quickly before one or two bugs become an infestation. Save your irritation for something else... like mosquitoes.

  18. Get some foggers.  You will need to cover plants and fish tanks.  Every thing else with a pulse cannot be home for about four hours.  Set them off, and go catch a movie.  When you get home just wipe down the countertops and your set to go.
