Potatoes and Tomatoes are related and the fruit is similar to a Tomato in that it contains pulp and the seeds of the plant. However, there is one HUGE difference. The fruit contains high quantities of Oxalic acid and is toxic. In fact much of the potato plant is but the tubers (what we call Potatoes) are low in Oxalic acid and therefore good with salt and vinegar

It sounds like the fruit of the Deadly Nightshade(Belladonna)which is related to the humble potato.Whatever you do do NOT eat it or allow anybody else to,it is extremely poisonous.

The plants of the Deadly Nightshade and the potato are both very similar when young.Don't take any chances with this plant,just pull it up and burn it immediately.

It's poisonous, my son had to have his stomach pumped out when he was 4 when he ate one. Just pull it off and dispose of it, the actual potatoes are fine
