Depending on the state you're in that can take a while.

It took almost a year for them to settle Dad's estate.

They have to exhaust all other avenues of "other"existing sibblings, wills etc before settlement can be made.

A phone call to the relevant person (hopefully lawyers etc) handling the estate would not be rude.

You must have the papers which state that you have an interest. Isn't there an executor to that will? Contact the executor and ask when the will be finalized.

It can take many months to settle an estate.  Contact the executor to determine the current status.
