I was on it for a year and a half and got my period back with 4-6 months after getting off the shot but haven't been able to get pregnant yet....is it normal to take this long or should I be concerned about infertility?

  1. Most doctors say to wait for at least a year before being concerned about getting checked for fertility problems.  If you've been trying for 2, you could have a talk with your doc.

You don't say if you've tried anything to help you along.  For example, tracking BBT & CM, taking ovulation tests, etc.  You can research these things on many good websites.  I like webMD and have seen many women on this forum suggesting fertilityfriend.com.

I took Depo for 2 years in my early 20's.  I didn't start trying to conceive until 3-4 years later (took it while dating a fellow that I thought was the "one" only to break up and finally met my husband).  Since I was still taking the pill and not trying to conceive, I don't know how long it should take for your system to get back to normal.  I have always heard that it normally takes 2-3 months after stopping any form of birth control for your body to reset itself.

Best of luck to you!!  And lots of BABY DUST!

  2. I have heard of the shot doing a lot of funny things to women and their bodies!

  3. I also took the shot. I was on it twice. The first time was for a year then the second time was for two years. I didn't get my period for a whole year after the second time, but after I did, I got pregnant about six months after. I had a miscarriage in my second month, but it had nothing to do with the depo and about five months after that I was able to carry my new baby. He is two years old now.  I think that the depo acts differently with everyone. Maybe it's not the depo or maybe it is. Who knows? Ask your doctor about it and see what she/he says. It could still be in your system and then again it could just be that your body is doing that on it's own.

  4. I was on the depo for 7 months  from oct 05 to May 06. (I was only on it for a short period cos I took it initially to stop my periods and turns out I couldnt stop bleeding)! I fell pregnant in Jan 08, So I got preggo within 18 months of coming of the shot. I was told it can take 12 - 18 months for it to be completely out of your system anyway. It literally does depend on the person, I would suggest going to your GP if you are really concerned.

  5. It differs from one woman to the next. I was also on the Depo shot (4 years) and it wasn't until 6 years later that I got pregnant. It just takes more time for it to leave the body for some women. If you are that concerned, however, go to a doctor and be checked out.

    Good luck.
