school and graduated (switching to a different type of career). When applying for jobs, the companies are asking for "professional references." However, since my last job, my last employer has relocated over 1000 miles away (and changed names). Also, due to so many people switching to cell phone service only or protecting their confidentiality by not allowing their address and phone number to be listed online, I am finding it IMPOSSIBLE to locate previous bosses to list for professional references. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  1. Ive had a friend with a similar situation...only worked for 1 company and left on bad terms. They got someone they knew who works for the local council to give them a character reference. Not exactly what your looking for but it did help him.

  2. With permission, use your college advisor or instructors as references.  Also, if you have done any volunteer work, ask the people there if you can use them as references.
