  1. Not that they'll admit to, dear, though there have been accusations.

  2. Blood atonement is practiced at the state level and is known as capital punishment.  In particular it is capital punishment through firing squad.

  3. Read about the Mountain Meadows Massacre - that will certainly cover the topic of "Blood Atonement."

  4. We do not perform Blood Atonement.  There is some history of the doctrine being taught, but it was never the place of latter-day church leaders or the members to carry it out.  It is left to the state (capital punishment) and the guilty party (in Utah, they choose what form of capital punishment they wish to undergo - I do not know if other states give them a choice).  This is why Utah still uses the firing squad - so if a member comments murder and wishes to, he can make sure his blood is spilt at his death (though there has recently been talk of getting rid of the firing squad).  But it has never been a practice of the church to force blood atonement on anyone.

  5. Hi, I'm mormon, and I have actually no idea what you are talking about.  If what you are referring to is the sacrificial offering of lambs and such mentioned, take a look in your bible and you will find the same thing.  As with the bible, all literal blood sacrifice ended with the ultimate sacrifice of the Lamb of God, when He allowed His life to be taken in what we refer to as the atonement.  Since that point in time, there has been no shedding of blood by anyone or anything by those who truly follow the teachings of the church.  (I can vouch for it well, since I have served a mission for my church and try to read and understand all it's doctrines on a regular basis.)  If you really want to know about our religion, I would suggest that there is a good place to look, either speak with the Mormon missionaries or go to www.mormon.org and read what we really believe, rather than all the hyped up things that anti-mormons post on the net or publish in books.  :)  I hope that helps.

  6. Participated in Blood Atonement?  What prey tell is that supposed to refer to? <eye roll>  Sounds like a prime ANTI question looking for something stupid here.

As a child of God and a follower of Jesus CHrist I apply the principles and power of the atonement of Christ EVERY DAY in my life as I recognize my sins, repent and recommitt my heart to Him.  THAT is how the atonement of Christ is applicable to every soul on the earth.

No other way that you are implying, searching for or supposedly asking about in your ignorant question (troll).....

  7. I don't believe that blood atonement is mentioned in the book of mormon.  If it is, that's news to me.

Blood atonement... the idea that man must atone themselves for the big sins was preached from the pulpit by Brigham Young and practiced through the Danites in early church history.  This doctrine, although believed as part of the true gospel of Christ, has been declared heretical by LDS prophet Spencer W. Kimball.

That said, I still run into people who think they must perfect themselves before the atonement of Christ can have an affect in their life.  They base this off of the Book of Mormon's scripture that "we are saved by grace after all we can do."  Ironically this was preached by Kimball in his book The Miracle of Forgiveness but has been softly denied in other publications by popular Mormon writers such as Stephen Robinson in books such as Believing Christ.

  8. No. That doesn't happen in the LDS church in our current time. That was only during bible times. I can see why that would worry you though.

  9. I’ve read some books on Mormonism (by non-Mormons). Although the doctrine is mentioned, I haven’t run across any record of Mormons’ having actually carried out blood atonement. (For the benefit of other readers, blood atonement means that if a sin is serious enough only the taking of the sinner’s life - “spilling of blood” - can atone for the sin.) The doctrine is not generally held outside of Mormon circles. I don’t know to what extent modern Mormons hold the doctrine.

  10. i missed the scripture in sunday school, can you point to it for me?

  11. Just as most of America has participated in it. It's called "Capital punishment". You know, lethal injection, electric chair, etc.

  12. I think painting graffiti should be punishable by death.  Just because that is my opinion and it might be shared by others, it is not the law of the land.  Since it will never be enforced, it doesn't make sense to make a big deal about it 150 years later.
