They also lie about who they are and why they are calling. Its always the same 800 # so I know its the same collection agency. Once a lady told me she was calling from the state agency of fraud and theft and needed to talk to him right away. Today she called and actually told me his personal collection issues. That they were trying to repossess his car! Is this legal? I thought they couldn't discuss private information like that.

  1. THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO COLLECT THE DEBT JUST AS MUCH AS HE HAS THE RIGHT TO PRIVAVCY I WOULD GIVE HIM THE PHONE NEXT TIME THEY CALL AND MAKE SURE THAT HE TELLS THEM NOT TO CONTACT YOU ANY MORE

  2. I think that the next time you get a call like that hang up immediatly! It could be very dangerous and I would advise you ring the cops!!!!!

  3. agencies have the right to collect on a debt....talk to the employee..and ask him to rectify the situation so yo are not hounded by his calls at work....

  4. What they are doing is illegal. They are harrassing you over your coworkers debt. You should tell them not to call you back.

If possible record their calls and TELL them you are recording the calls.

If they continue to call you can sue and the coworker can sue, but most lawyers will feel that it's not worth it.

They can be reported for violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

This is why people hate collection agencies so much.

They will lie, break the law, cheat, steal, swindle and any number of other immoral things in an attempt to collect.

they should be drug out into the street and shot if you ask me.

  5. How to stop debt collectors from harassing you about someone else's debt:

    Step One:

Send them a letter via Certified Mail + Return Receipt stating:

Per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, I am requesting that you cease all communications with me about this alleged debt of my co-worker. This not my debt and this is your official notification under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act to cease this illegal collection activity. This document was sent via Certified Mail + Return Receipt so I will be able to confirm receipt.

    Step Two:

Next time they call, read the following statement:

Pursuant to [your state] state law, this is to inform you that this phone call is being recorded. If you do not consent to being recorded, you need to terminate this call. Pursuant to [your state] state law, continuation of this phone call after officially being informed that it is being recorded implies consent to be recorded.  This recording will be used to pursue Fair Debt Collection Practice Act violations in a court of law.

  6. Since you know the number when it calls, answer and then immediately hit the # key non-stop until they hang up.

If you keep doing this consistently for each call, eventually they'll leave you alone.  Some  newspaper got my cell number and called me 3 times a day, every day, always from a different number.  I started to do that and within a week they stopped calling.

    Good luck!

  7. I have them calling my house all the time for my 2 sisters.. I finally told them if they want their money to call them and gave one of them my sister's husband's cell #.. there is no reason I should be bothered for their mistakes.. AND these people get ignorant with you when you tell them not to call you anymore or if they feel they haven't gotten the info they want.

Every one of the calls I have been told the personal credit issues.
