I have been searching for ages for a site layout on my site. I have tried learning html and css, but it seems that I don't seem to understand it much. I have been on various sites, and have copied the html and css codes, but when I go on my site to see the new and improved so-called layout, I end up finding just the background image of the layout only. Is there anyone who can make a layout that WILL work for me, or can someone please tell me what's going on or what I've done wrong?! Thanks!

  1. You cant just copy code from existing sites and expect it to work. The code is likely referencing images and files which are not on your own server, meaning they wont work. Also, if it references images on another site which you can see on your own page, thats essentially putting extra load on someone elses server... very bad netiquette.

I would advise looking for a drag-and-drop WYSIWYG editor such as Dreamweaver, which allows you to simply place your content on a page. It generates all the required code for you, so you dont need to know anything about html/css for it to work.

  2. In addition to Goffik's excellent answer, you may also want to look into web hosts that offer a "site builder" tool.

These tools basically let you design online - you wouldn't have to figure out how to "transfer" the files you create in your PC to your web host as well as follow instructions that maybe cryptic to you.

This is probably one of the simplest "hand holding" options for you. Admittedly they may cost a bit more because of the "extra service" they provide for a site builder tool, *and* also may be less "sophisticated"...but since you're just starting out, it will at least leave you less frustrated and you can get something actually done - hopefully serving as more incentive to learn and understand things more so you can move on to bigger things..

    Good luck!

  3. to learn html/css, i would recommend http://bookchamp.net and http://lissaexplains.com .

maybe i can make a layout that will work for u, but the best place for layouts would probably be http://pages.matmice.com/home/layoutfact... .

as for what's wrong, i think that maybe ur browser doesn't allow frames/iframes (if u'r using a layout that uses it).

    hope they help! ^^
