I am finding it very difficult to find work. I have over 15 years of management experience mostly upper management in food service but still with a nice blend and I cant seem to find any company willing to even interview me let alone hire me. I am collecting but that means nothing compared to the life my self and family live with a salary in th upper $60's plus my wifes income. My experience is mostly food service but my arguement is take away the food title and you have someone with budget, human resource, customer service, P+L and all around good business experience . What do I do. My family and I cant hold on much longer!!

  1. Job search as most people believe they know it, doesn't work.  You are living proof of my statement.

You need to have multiple personalities: one personality is the Manager looking for the job, the second one is the SELF who will be selling the manager looking for the job.

So put on the hat of the salesperson, and for each job posting do a thorough analysis:  what is that you can bring to that company for that position that is UNIQUE and VALUABLE to that company?  Answer with honesty and then strategize on how to approach the company (sending the resume to HR doesn't work, does it?), what collateral material to use (one resume fits all doesn't work), etc . . .  then execute!

Someone out there is taking this approach for each and every job you are applying for, and they are taking those jobs.

  2. Poor little rich boy.  Tighten your belt,   eat  a bit lower on the hog, get a taste of reality, know how the others live, check your parachute, dont be so full of yourself,  you may be "all that" but you aint got no place to sell it. So good luck in your  fairy tsle world, where you make 60k per year  and your wife makes a salary also.  Try living on 10k per year and see how hungry you get until you learn. I advise you to expand your search into other areas and  like you said other areas of endeavor.  Your lifew is drastically deteriorating, so take drastic measures or  come  down here with  me. I make 8,000 per year and i aint starving.

  3. I was recently laid off. I have worked call center for 7 years and finding it difficult to find work locally.

If your family is willing to relocate then I would suggest spreading your search to other states.

I am finding that there are more opportunities elsewhere with better pay for the same amount of work and have already received a few calls.

Even if moving is something you may be reluctant about I would still broaden your search. You never know... the right offer may give you the right amount of encouragement to help you step out of your comfort zone.
