I have just switched to vista to find that my sound is being really weird. It will only play certain kinds of sounds, for example when i watch a movie i hear music and not the people talk. However when i tried my other headphones they work perfectly. Yes all my drivers are up to date

And the headphones that only play certain sounds worked in xp perfectly

  1. First try try right clicking the volume control in bottom right hand tray. From there you will choose open volume mixer...that basically will pinpoint the problem if it is a repairable one.If that fails try uninstalling your sound card, and install the updated version. If that fails, try shutting everything down and disconnect all speaker wire.Plug it all back, reboot and try it.If all those steps fail...do a system restore to an earlier time when it worked fine.If that fails, look to your PC manufactures FAQ page and try every option it suggests.

    Try this

Open the equaliser and see if anything is muted or the volume turned down too low.

  3. Sounds like a Sounds Setting.

Check the Sound Settings in the Control Panel. You should have an Equalizer, or something. You May have a Surround Sound Setting, that Needs to be Changed.

Make sure your Sound Control is Not set to Surround Sound!!

If None of this Helps, Go Back to XP. Sounds like Vista is Holding You back, like it Did my Brother!! <:P

  4. This is certainly a problem with the headphones. Try testing them on other devices or other computers and you'll see that they dont work properly.

  5. throw away the headphone that dont work on vista. then headphone will work for both. problem solve.

goto cntrl pnl, click sound icon., check settings. set it to analog if possible. or choose headphone settings. enjoy
