Question:

I have been told some need the shaft of the putter in the middle, others the end. How do I KNOW which is 4me?

I used to be a GREAT putter. Now it seems I've lost that fine, fine tuning that allows MOST of the putts to go in and drive your playing partners NUTS! Could it be that SOFT insert? I hate those things and getting harder and harder to find a putter without them. And about that shaft thing? Is it really a big deal? Are the "rife" putters REALLY as GREAT as they seem to say they are? Does that little bead you line it up with do squat? Are the weights that big of a deal? Or once you set yours do you pretty much leave them where they are? I am a pretty low handicap golfer. I don't drive very far but short game is my thing. So, when the putting isn't GREAT, I suffer. All these putters out there... phew...I used to use an Arnold Palmer original but it seems to have gotten away. Don't find too many of those out there.. unless willing to spend FIVE FIGURES for one. lol... Thanks for reading and I appreciate your input!

  1. Just like all your clubs the primary component is " feel". If you are a pretty low handicap golfer  you have gone into too much verbiage which tells us nothing. A low handicapper knows what feels right, feels the head of the putter, the manner in which it swings, the ease of keeping a putt on line. You will know what putter is for you when what was explained is the putter you have in your hand.

  2. Test each one out. and whatever one feels great and helps get the ball online properly each time, then that is the one for you.

  3. IMO...

Center shafted versus traditional putters are preference choices. There's nothing indicating either is better.

Yes the Rife are very nice, I like the roll on them, but I don't want to pay that much either. I kind of like their alignment aids, but I know what you mean, some of them you see are not pleasing to the eye at all. I do also like the idea of inter-changable weights. The concept is definitely credible, a lot of people find it makes a difference.

If you want a face insert that's not too soft, you could consider the Odyssey DFX. It's the older grayish/black finished series, I have one myself and I alternate with a DF 2 (Dual Force) with a softer insert that I like for slower greens.

Another one to check out is the Yes! brand. I thought the roll was very similar to the Rife, only about half the price. A firm face insert on those also. Good luck!
