I am a bit skeptical but I was wondering if there is a way to get your blood tested to find out cause i know they can test your DNA to find out your heritage

  1. They have some pretty detailed tests at this point and have collected most distinct groups.   I know that some tribes ( the rich casino ones) have even instituted genetic testing to prove membership in the tribe.  I suggest contacting the comanche nation to see whether genetic testing is available through them,, or if you'd have to go to a private firm.

  2. RIGHT-ON

  3. I don't think you can determine that with a blood test.

You should look through your geneology.  Ask your older family members, or find out the name of your Great-grandfather, find out where he was from, and do some research on the Comanche.  If your info is legit, you'll be able to find your ancestry on the Dawes Rolls.  Maybe.

  4. wow  - lots of incorrect answers -

First - DNA can not tell if you have Commanche - first of all Commanche is a cultural identification - not a biological one, so DNA could not help even if techniques were refined enough.  What DNA MAY be able to tell is if you have some connections to the generalized Native American populations - which may be a first step.  There are no DNA tests for any culture in the world - all a DNA test can identify is if you have connections to a generalized population.  IF you have a specific ancestor in mind and can get a sample of that persons DNA - you can make more accurate statements - but otherwise......

Second - while there are roles that the tribes keep, it does not matter whether you are 1/16, 1/2 of full blooded Commanche - if your name was not entered on the rolls, contacting the tribe will not help.  What you may be able to do is trace your ancestry and find out if someone way back there was actually on the roles at some point - which would give you a connection to the tribe - and show you are descendant - but it would not necessarily make you Commanche.

Each tribe has different rules about what it takes to be a member (I do not know what the Commanche rules are). In some, all you need is 1/8 ancestry - for others you have to be full for them to consider you a member.  Other factors get involved as well.  Some groups are matrilineal and trace descent only through females - others are patrilineal and trace only through males.  As an example I use in the class I teach on Native Americans - it is theoretically possible for someone to be 100% Native American - but becasue mom comes from a patrilineal group and Dad from a Matrilineal one - that person may not be eligible to belong to a tribe.

The only way to really find out is to do the legwork of tracing your ancestors.

    Good Luck
