  1. You should visit your doctor, as this doesn't sound healthy.

Meds sound like the answer in the short term, along with therapy in the long term to work out why you are having these nightmares

  2. Obviously, you are deeply troubled by something and it is apparent in your dreams, turning them into nightmares.  Why not try an over the counter sleep aid just for like maybe 5 to 7 days and no more.  See if that breaks the pattern of your sleepless, terror filled nights.  A good one that I like is Unisom caplets.  For some reason, I don't find the gel tabs to work as well.

Just one more thing -- are you on any medication?  Years ago, I was on an antidepressant and it gave me terrible night terrors.  I would awake screaming and try to run out of the room because I "saw" things that weren't there.  They are called vivid dreams, from what I've been told.

  3. Try to figure out your main stresses, and deal with them one at a time. Take some time to relax and be yourself..

  4. Sleep tries to resolve unresolved parts of  your day life. Like someone else mentioned, you may have had something happen to you that you have bothering you. Even if you think it doesn't bother you.

If this IS NOT the case...consider that it could be something else. Maybe something that seems unrelated. Example: Chantix is a medication to help people quit smoking...it is strongly associated with vivid dreams or nightmares. This may not be your issue...but it is clear indication  that foods or drugs can change how your brain is working. Also, pregnant women often have nightmare associated with the hormonal changes that occur as pregnancy advances. There are multiple causes.

If this continues...(more than a couple weeks) consider seeing your doctor. It isn't normal. Don't take pills to fix your symptoms. Fix your problem. You may need outside help to figure out what it is exactly.

Don't self medicate. IT won't work but short term. By the way: alcohol can make it worse.

    I hope you feel better.
