  1. It matters as to where the bees are at. If they are in a location where someone is apt to be stung or hurt by them, I would try to seal the hole they are accessing.

Otherwise, if they are safely away from people/doors/windows, I would leave them be. In light of the bee crisis our country has experienced, the bees need to live so they can continue their ever important purpose of pollinating our crops and plant life.

  2. you are probably seeing true yellow jackets, most people that call me for them originally thought they were honey bees due to their size and activity. If they are honey bees, if you are in area prone to them, Africanized bees are frequently found in ground nests.

Either way they probably need to be addressed at some point.  Leave them to a pro. If they are YJs they will be gone in Winter but until then the numbers will grow and they are very protective around the nest.

  3. if its possible to leave them alone, do that.  bee are important for vast amount of reasons.

  4. Watch yourself.  It could be Cicada Killers ( a type of wasp ).  They can be aggressive.

  5. we have bumble bees living in the ground, been there for many years

cause us no trouble at all.  we even use the lawn mower on the grass

    there.

  6. They're most likely wasps (yellow jackets, paper, etc.)  I control those bees fairly easily with an early-morning application of wasp-killer. In an aerosol can).  While the hive is still sleeping, you squirt this foam stuff as far down into the hole as possible and stop once it starts foaming above ground level. (save the rest for another application)
